John House Releases 20 Years of Tax Returns

Press Release

Date: Aug. 28, 2012
Location: Columbus, GA

Congressional challenger John House made good on a promise to release 20 years of his federal tax returns today. After winning the Republican nomination in a runoff election, retired Colonel John House, in an unprecedented move, challenged Congressman Sanford Bishop to release 20 years of his federal tax returns.

Colonel House indicated that he based his challenge on the number of years that Congressman Bishop has served in Congress. Representative Bishop, who says this is the first time he has been challenged to release his tax returns and added that the challenge is "ridiculous" and refused to release 20 years of his returns, but agreed to release his last 10 years.

Colonel House says that he is releasing his returns in the spirit of full disclosure. "As we ask voters to trust us to balance national budget, to reduce the national debt, and to make life changing decisions that will directly impact their families -- the least we as candidates should do is show voters how we have managed our own finances."

Colonel House says this has nothing to do with the Bishop's ethics allegations, corruption listing, or net worth of negative $200,000.00 -- this is done purely in the spirit of transparency.
